Minerals on Stamps

Prof. Paul Glover BSc, ARCS, MSc, PhD

My research is aimed at understanding the physical properties of rocks through experiment, numerical modelling, the development of theory, and application. I am particularly interested in the electrical and electro-kinetic properties of rocks, the use of nanoparticles in reservoir engineering, and gas shales.

These properties and applications have their origins at extremely small scales because they are controlled by interactions between the surface of minerals and the molecules composing the pore fluid. Normally, it is their macroscopic effects that are measured in the laboratory on hand sized samples, and it is their megascopic outcomes that have consequences for humanity in the form of volcanoes, earthquakes, polluted aquifers and hydrocarbon extraction.

I am currently involved in the development of improved theoretical basis for the electrical and electro-kinetic properties of rocks, nanoflooding, characterisation of gas shales, and advanced reservoir modelling and simulation.
