..can the past also be the key to the future?

I'm conducting a joint project between Oxford's OceanBug group and the Sellwood Group investigating ENSO related variability in the Pliocene. Currently titled: "El Nino-Southern Oscillation in El Padre: Characterising the Pliocene Equatorial Warm Pool From Individual Foraminifera" I am determining the inter-annual variability of the eastern equatorial Pacific through stable isotope analysis of multiple species of individual foraminifera (Koutavas et al. 2006, Leduc et al. 2009) as well as monospecific coccolith fractions from the novel Minoletti & Hermoso (2009) technique. This multispecies, multi time-slice approach will provide insight into changing conditions throughout the upper water column, helping to constrain thermocline position and fluctuation.
