Land Cover in a Warmer World: Reconstructing Late Miocene Vegetation
The Late Miocene (11.6-5.33Ma) is considered a recent warm period in Earth History. This makes it a suitable 'test-bed' for global circulation models. To examine the models using Earth history a proxy for climate is required. The fossilised remains of vegetation provides such a proxy. By collating a large amount of palaeobotanical sites, in a manner consistent with the models, it will be possible to make an advanced vegetation reconstruction.
