Zoë Cumberpatch

PhD Student

University of Manchester

zoe.cumberpatch@manchester.ac.uk

@deepwater_zobes

Zoë completed her BSc in Geological Sciences at the University of Leeds where she was on the Year in Industry Scheme and undertook her placement at Getech working on Palaeogeographic mapping of Eastern Canada. Her undergraduate dissertation focussed on the syn-tectonic deltaic deposits of the Megara Basin, Gulf of Corinth Greece. Zoë went on to study Petroleum Geoscience MSc at Imperial College London (sponsored by Statoil, UK). Her master's thesis focussed on reservoir heterogeneity within the Connemara discovery, offshore western Ireland. At present Zoë is about to go into her second year of her NERC CDT Oil and Gas sponsored PhD at the University of Manchester. Her project is entitled 'Discerning halokinetic from autocyclic sequences in deep-marine sedimentary systems' and integrates outcrop examples from the Basque Country and subsurface examples from the eastern Central Graben, UK North Sea.

Damjan Ostrelič

PhD Student

University of Leeds

Damjan completed his undergraduate studies in Geological Sciences at the University of Zagreb in 2016. His undergraduate dissertation focused on the petrographic and geochemical characteristics of volcaniclastic deposits of the External Dinarides near Lika, Croatia. At present, Damjan is undertaking a master's degree in Geology of Mineral Resources and Geophysical Exploration which he will complete this summer. In his thesis he is primarily using geochemical methods to investigate the metamorphic rocks of Krndija, a mountain in eastern Croatia.

Ander Martinez-Doñate Gomez

PhD Student

University of Manchester

Upon completion of his BSc in Geology at the University of the Basque Country in 2017, Ander undertook an MSc in Reservoir Geology and Geophysics at the University of Barcelona. His thesis, 'Determining the onset of folding by analyzing paleoslope direction from gravitational structures' focused on the tectono-sedimentary relationships developed during the emplacement of the Sant Corneli Anticline and the formation of the Pyrenean chain. The project was completed in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (ICTJA-CSIC) as part of the research team Group of Dynamics of the Lithosphere.

Tim Wigan

PhD Student

Imperial College, London

After completing his BSc in Geography and Geology at the University of Manchester, Tim began his career as a Geologist, working offshore across the globe from the UK Continental shelf to New Zealand for 5 years. Tim briefly worked in a geophysical exploration role in the Australian outback, before returning to the University of Manchester to study a master's degree in Petroleum Geoscience. Tim’s thesis, sponsored by BP, improved the understanding of a major regional unconformity across Oman utilizing 3D seismic and well-bore data.
