CLASP

The Compact Lightweight Aerosol Spectrometer Probe (CLASP) is a novel instrument that has been developed at the University of Leeds. In particular, CLASP has been designed for use as part of an aerosol flux package, tether-sonde, and for use on near surface air-sea interface buoys. It was also used in an aerosol/meteorological system in a helicopter during the ASCOS campaign in summer 2008. There have been a number of versions of the instrument as the development has continued. A technical paper on CLASP has been published in the Journal for Atmospheric and Oceanographic technology in November 2008 which describes the development up to the date of publishing.

In summary the advantages of the CLASP are:

·         Robust,

·         Lightweight (less than 1 kg),

·         Compact,

·         Low Power,

·         High temporal resolution,

·         user selectable number and width of channels.
