Jim McQuaid's pictures from Arctic Mechanisms of Interaction between the Surface and Atmosphere (AMISA)
Kiruna (N.Sweden), August 2008

AMISA is a NASA-sponsored International Polar Year (IPY) project with the goal of understanding the sea ice and atmospheric radiation processes leading to Arctic sea ice freezeup.

AMISA is also the airborne science campaign which is coupled to the IPY project, ASCOS.
In fact you can see how closely coupled the two projects are here.
This was taken by Matthew Shupe demonstrates just how really close the two projects are coupled!!
