Biography

I joined SEE in January 2008 as Admin Support and Projects Manager with responsibility for the Administrative Support across the School as well as contributing to its strategic development. I also oversee the data collection element of workload planning for the School, manage administrative staff resourcing and have responsibility as the Alumni Engagement Manager for SEE.

Prior to this post, I worked elsewhere at the University of Leeds: initially I joined the School of Medicine at the National Cancer Research Network (NCRN) Coordinating Centre where my role involved coordinating and managing a programme of training for health care professionals involved in cancer clinical trials across England. Subsequently, I was Development Officer for Teaching Projects in the School of Computing where I was principally working on the HEFCE-funded CETL ALiC (Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Active Learning in Computing) project.

Before coming to Leeds I lived and worked in Lancaster. I completed my undergraduate degree (BSc. Geography) and PhD "Asthma on Wirral: Place, Pollen Perception" followed by two x 2 year post-doctoral research projects focusing on access to out of hours GP services across Cumbria and East Lancashire. At the end of my second post-doc, I became a self-employed lecturer and researcher for 6 months before taking a career break for 4 months to travel in Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. It was a fantastic experience and I was lucky enough to walk back into a job back at Lancaster University on my return, this time based in Medical Statistics. But the contract was only 6 months so I immediately started looking for something else and within a couple of weeks landed the NCRN job here in Leeds: time to move to Yorkshire!

In December 2007 I married Simon and we have since had two children: Emily arrived in September 2011 and Thomas followed in March 2013. After many happy years based in the Aire Valley, we now live in York and aim to enjoy the Great Outdoors when time allows. Mostly though I am a busy mum-of-two trying to juggle the demands of children, a house, a garden, an allotment and (thankfully for my sanity) a part-time job here in Leeds!
