MARID2008

Leeds will be host to the 3rd International Workshop on Marine Sandwaves and River Dune Dynamics (MARID2008). The Workshop brings together a diverse range of workers: both research based and applied based.

The workshop considers marine sandwave and river dune dynamics and related processes. Focusing on:

• bedform evolution (migration, growth, spatial variation)

• sedimentary properties of bedforms

• hydrodynamic and morphodynamic modelling

• data collection

• practical applications (e.g., bedform-related problems for navigation)

Background: Under the aegis of the North Sea Hydrographic Commission, a workshop on marine sandwave dynamics was held in Lille (France) in 2000. Following the success of this workshop, a second workshop was held in Enschede (the Netherlands) in April 2004, broadening its scope to sandwave and river dune dynamics. The workshop Marine Sandwave and River Dune Dynamics II was organised by the University of Twente and the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOM).
