For the past couple of years we have been working to deliver training in computational skills for environmental scientists. We use funding from NERC's Advanced Training Short Course (ATSC) scheme to deliver Software Carpentry workshops open to NERC funded research postgraduates and early career researchers in the environmental sciences based anywhere in the UK. Details of previous and future courses are given below.

Further beyond the code (ATSC 2015/16)

As part of the 2015/16 ATSC scheme we will be running Software Carpentry workshops in Leeds and Bristol. Exact dates are yet to be confirmed, but once known they will be advertised here (and at the Software Capentry list of workshops). Our provisional schedule is:

  • Workshop 1 (three days): Leeds, September 2015
  • Workshop 2 (three days): Bristol, November/December 2015
  • Workshop 3 (four days): Leeds, January/February 2016

An idea of the syllabus can be gleaned from details of the 2014/15 workshops. Further information can be obtained by contacting Andrew Walker (a.walker@leeds.ac.uk).

Beyond the code (ATSC 2014/15)

We ran two workshops as part of the 2014/15 ATSC scheme and provided training to 42 researchers. Details of the November 2014 workshop can be found here and those of the January 2015 workshop can be found here.
