Stean Cottage is in the village of Stean, which lies at the northern end of Nidderdale. Postcode is HG3 5SY. The nearest town is Pateley Bridge.

When you reach Pateley Bridge, find the Vauxhall Garage (Nidderdale Motors) - from here a small road (unnumbered) leads to Upper Nidderdale. It is signposted to Middlesmoor and How Stean Gorge.
Follow the road for about 7 miles, past Gouthwaite Reservoir and to the village of Lofthouse. Go straight through Lofthouse, but turn off left (signposted How Stean Gorge), cross a narrow bridge and swing sharply to the right. You will soon reach the entrance to How Stean Gorge - pass this and drive up to the village of Stean.
Where the metalled road ends you will see Stean Cottage facing you. Parking is on the right by the fence (not too near the gate - it needs to be opened quite often!!), or over the cattle grid and through the wooden gate into the carport immediately to the right of the cottage.
