Modules

The MRes course has four modules, each of which focuses on a generic type of research skill rather than a specific topic. Within each module there are a variety of learning activities. Detailed information is given on the linked pages.

A key part of the programme is attending the research seminars in the two 'parent' Institutes for the course.
There is an associated assessment with these seminars, it comprises of ONE PAGE write-ups of TEN seminars over two terms (5 per term). You should be doing 6 write-ups from one series and the remaining 4 from the other, this is to ensure that you gain an appreciation of both areas of research within the school.

Details of ICAS external seminars are posted here and details of the IGT seminars can be found here

Assessment and Marking Criteria

- The schools official statement on the marking and classification of the MRes degree is available here.

- Where modules include material from undergraduate modules the assessment criteria will differ from those for undergraduates; details of these differences are given here.

- Examples of typical marking criteria including written Work, poster presentation, final project marking schemes can be viewed here.

Projects

Before deciding on one you should talk to the supervisors of any projects you are interested in to get a better idea of what is involved. A short computer project is also required to be undertaken - this should be related to you research project, you should consider the computer project as developing a research tool to use within your main research project.
